Policies and Publication Procedures

  • For the web site, we will introduce the following three labels minor / major / bug fixes based on the levels of the changes.
    • major changes: PRs (e.g., new page content or new web pages, blog posts) needs 1 week preview time of the WoT group (will be announced in the main call, with a resolution the following week)
      • Blog posts should also make a PR to the marketing repo and follow the instructions there for archival, etc.
      • Note that updates to the web content in the marketing repo is *immediately* copied to the live web site, so reviews should happen on the PR before it is merged.
      • Ideally reviews for blog posts can follow the same process, doing reviews and editing on a PR, and the draft/published directories in the repo can be used just for final cleanup.
    • minor changes: PRs (e.g., small extension) will be also announced latest one day before the main call, followed by a resolution in the main call
    • bug fixes: PRs (e.g., typos, links update) that are "error corrections" of existing content can be merged directly at the discretion of the editors
  • Social Media: Please refer to WG/IG policy at https://github.com/w3c/wot/blob/main/policies/social-media.md

    • Commercial Adoption:
      • Latest Status: Is the Marketing TF ok to have this as a CG topic? Marketing page can link to the CG page.
        • A basic expectation is something like https://landscape.json-schema.org/ can be done easily.
        • Members should have more visibility.
        • Standards, consortiums, open source foundations etc. can be different categories
        • Procedure: We should document this as a policy.
          • Adopters would proactively submit their adoption claim and logo. We should avoid putting things ourselves. Adopters should be able to change their logo, name etc.
          • Meetup presentations, registry entries can be automatic adopters
        • Domain name:
          • w3.org/wot/cg is available for all CGs and can be used e.g. w3.org/wot/cg/adopters. The CG name can be highlighted there and this page can be maintained by the CG.
          • Should it be a completely different domain -> github.io pages of a CG. It would navigate the same but the URLs would change. Even the "button back" can be the same style so the visitors do not notice it.
        • To check with MarComm: Domain Name, Ownership, Procedure (approval, included information, lifecycle of an association), Distinguishing Members
        • Call for Resolution: will be written after confirmation from MarComm
      • Luca: It would be nice to have a "label" for others to use on their products and promote. The adopter puts it into their website, we link to that website.
      • Ege: Mentioning commercial adoption of member and non-member companies. Explaining how they adopt WoT, e.g. do they adopt discovery spec or is it just TD? Doing something like https://landscape.json-schema.org/
    • What to focus on? Documentation page is outdated for example (https://github.com/w3c/wot-marketing/issues/258). We have two issues as well
    • https://github.com/w3c/wot-marketing/issues/480
    • https://github.com/w3c/wot-marketing/issues/482
    • How do we manage videos: https://github.com/w3c/wot-marketing/issues/407 . There are quite a lot now and sorting by date is not optimal since some videos are old but quite useful

    • Mastodon account:
      • Current email is Ege's work email. Better to change in case we want to change the password etc.
      • Who should have access? To be discussed in main call too.
