This is an archived snapshot of W3C's public bugzilla bug tracker, decommissioned in April 2019. Please see the home page for more details.
This item is a spinoff from the editors' work on RQ-141b. In the course of fixing an alignment problem between Structures and Datatypes as regards the enumeration facet, the editors saw an opportunity for an analogous change to the pattern facet: make its {value} be a set instead of a single regular expression, and change the facet merger rules in Structures to perform the correct set union operation on the facet created in the restriction step and the pattern facet of the base type. Since this change is not essential to reconciling Structures and Datatypes, and since it involves a design choice which ought to be made by the WG, it has been factored out from the larger proposal for RQ-141b to make separate consideration easier.
Checked in revised version which I (HST) am happy with, think this is ready to go to the WG, all changes tagged with dg="pattern-1929"
A proposal for this issue is at http://www.w3.org/XML/Group/2004/06/xmlschema-2/datatypes.b1929.20050907.html and is ready for WG consideration.
Revised proposal available at http://www.w3.org/XML/Group/2004/06/xmlschema- 2/datatypes.b1929.20051020.html, per f2f decisions
Discussed at 2005-10-21 telecon [1]. An amendment was proposed and accepted by the WG. Resolution: Proposal accepted unanimously as amended. [1] http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Member/w3c-xml-schema-ig/2005Oct/0019.html
A proposal to provide for a single set-valued pattern facet was approved in September 2005 in Edinburgh. For reasons not clear from the minutes, it was considered again and approved again on 21 October. As of 15 December, the change has been integrated into the status-quo version of the document.
Although no formal request for closure was made, since the reporter also noted the resolution of this bug over two years ago, I'm marking it closed.
