WG Notes: [TEAMB] Not sure how to address question of document vs site. Is "set of web units" all web units within a conformance claim? Or any set of web units that are somehow related to one another? I don't think a TOC and navigation links are the same; I'm not sure why they are being confused here. How do we respond to that part of the comment. 6/8/06 teleconference: David Macdonald to revise technique to clarify that documents are multi-web-page. ACTION: David to rewrite technique to make it clear that this tech. refers to a document that is broken up in to many Web pages. The information in the document is usually organized hierarchically, and is intended to be read sequentially. Just as there could be many books in a library, each with its own Table of Contents, a web site may contain many documents, each with its own Table of Contents. DONE Add to the end of the Description section: The sections of the document could be located on the same Web unit or divided into multiple Web units. This technique can be used to orient the user when a document is divided into multiple Web units. DONE David's amendments to the technique (G64). In the Description Section add a paragraph at the end that says: <proposed> There is a distinction between a Table of Contents and other Navigational elements such as a Navigation Bar or Site Map. A Table of Contents provides links to sections of the same document. Those sections could be located on the same web unit or spread across multiple web units. But together, they make a complete idea. To better understand this, consider a hard copy book which has sections. Each section belongs to the book. There could be many books in a library. In this example, the "library" is the entire web site. Resolution: This technique satisfies Success Criterion 2.4.5, "More than one way is available to locate content within a set of Web pages where content is not the result of, or a step in, a process or task." There must be several ways to locate any of the Web pages in a set, although they needn't be the same for all the Web pages in the Web site. We have expended the description in this technique to clarify when a Table of Contents is appropriate. This is a potential technique to satisfy Success Criterion 2.4.5 for any document that is represented as multiple Web pages. Documents that are represented as a single Web page may also provide a table of contents, but this success criterion does not apply to that situation.
