• XML and the Semantic Web are often viewed as competing efforts.
• Identity is crucial for data merger across heterogeneous Web Services.
• The Semantic Web gives us identity through URIs and entailment.
• Need the Semantic Web to WSDL - only takes xsd types.
• GRDDL makes possible to bind ontologies to XML, but does so in a procedural manner through embedding XSLT.
• XML Schema annotations allow one to do so declaratively, which is safer and directly builds on instead of losing the original XML Infoset of the document.
• Web Services are semantically typed, and so should be their content.
