This is an archived snapshot of W3C's public bugzilla bug tracker, decommissioned in April 2019. Please see the home page for more details.
I hope these are minor enough that putting them all in one bug will not be a problem for the WG. 1.2: "!!" appears, presumably as a placeholder. 1.3.3: There is a space in two of the URL patterns between "/vX.Y" and "Ne". The HTML source contains "<var> N</var>" 2.2: Should "component" be plural in "14 kinds of component in all"? I know there are situations that call of singular and others that call for plural. 2.2.3.1: A space is missing after the "G" in "A model group Gis said" 2.2: A line begins with a comma: ", then the ·actual value· of the targetNamespace [attribute] of the ancestor ..." 3.3.5: "If and only if and only if"
Thank you for pointing out these errors. I'm not sure about the origin of the '!!', but it seems to have disappeared from the editors' copy of the spec. The extra whitespace in the URL pattern ".../vX.Y/ Ne" appears to be an artifact of our use of tidy, which introduces a newline at that point in its output. In the phrase "14 kinds of component in all", I think different native speakers may have different intuitions about whether "component" needs to be plural or not; my own instinct is that it does not, but I am open to persuasion on the subject. I notice a number of parallel formulations; some of them use plurals and some use the singular, so if we change this one I think several others should also change. The missing blank in 2.2.3.1 has been supplied. I've changed the stylesheet so that it no longer generates that ill-placed comma in an if/then construct where the condition ends with a numbered list; in addition to the place you mention there were four others. The extra "and only if" in 3.3.5 has been suppressed. (Or, to be more precise, I have prepared a change proposal to make that and the other corrections necessary here.)
>2.2: Should "component" be plural in "14 kinds of component in all"? I know there are situations that call of singular and others that call for plural. For what it's worth: my copy-editors at Wiley, who are usually draconian about such things, have allowed me to use the singular and plural interchangeably in such constructs without raising any quibbles.
In an effort to make better use of Bugzilla, we are going to use the 'severity' field to classify issues by perceived difficulty. This bug is getting severity=minor to reflect the existing whiteboard note 'easy'.
A wording proposal including changes for this issue went to the WG on 7 February 2008: http://www.w3.org/XML/Group/2004/06/xmlschema-1/structures.consent.200801.html#composition (member-only link).
The corrections accepted by the XML Schema WG on today's call, in order to resolve this issue, are shown in an attachment to bug 5074 (http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/attachment.cgi?id=517). With this change, the WG believes we have resolved this issue fully. I'm changing the status of this record accordingly. Xan, as the originator of this comment, you should receive from Bugzilla an email notification of this decision. Please accept our thanks for the bug report. Please let us know if you agree with this resolution of your issue, by adding a comment to the issue record and changing the Status of the issue to Closed. Or, if you do not agree with this resolution, please add a comment explaining why. If you wish to appeal the WG's decision to the Director, then also change the Status of the record to Reopened. If you wish to record your dissent, but do not wish to appeal the decision to the Director, then change the Status of the record to Closed. If we do not hear from you in the next two weeks, we will assume you agree with the WG decision.
Accepted.
