Description Michael Kay 2011-06-21 15:42:55 UTC
The Functions and Operators specification refers to both the 1985 and 2008 editions of IEEE 754. The references should probably all change to refer to the 2008 edition.

Why, Mike? We're not adopting precisionDecimal. What other changes
are in IEEE 754:2008 that we need to recognize?

Just curious,
    Jim
Comment 2 Michael Kay 2011-06-21 21:48:06 UTC
The trigonometric functions are defined in terms of 754:2008. I've no
idea whether 754:1985 defines these, or whether the definitions are the
same. Having invested in a copy of the 754:2008 spec, I've no particular
enthusiasm for buying a copy of 754:1985 just to find out whether it has
changed.

I think we can be reasonably confident that there won't be any material
changes to the definitions of double arithmetic, other than bug fixes,
between the two: the spec is embodied in a lot of hardware.

Mike
