The content model of <object> has changed in HTML5. A bug has been filed to get back the HTML4 model: 9657 The spec defines the content model of <object> as "Zero or more param elements, then, transparent." Which means that only the content which the parent of <object> permits, is permitted inside <object>. http://dev.w3.org/html5/spec/embedded-content-0.html#transparent This problem also relates to ISSUE-107 (the <param> example that Lachlan had in the change proposal that the HTMLWG accepted): it is invalid as HTML5.
I don't think the HTML4 hack is worth mentioning.
I have no clue what hack your are talking about. If you want to discus what is hacks and how object should work, then the HTML5 spec is where you should put your energy.
