W3C Organizes Workshop on Mobile and Web Technologies in Social and Economic Development

W3C announces its fourth Workshop on Mobile and Web Technologies in Social and Economic Development, in Dar es Salam, Tanzania on 4-5 June. Today, more than half the world's population lives on less than $3 a day, and has no access to healthcare, education, government services, etc. But the strong growth in the mobile phone use offers new opportunities for improvement. The potential of simple ICT services on mobile devices to increase people's income has been demonstrated. However, there are still many challenges to overcome in order to realize the full potential of mobile and Web technologies in this area. The aim of this Workshop is to explore how to lower the existing barriers and to identify key directions for future exploration.
