In this paper we will briefly describe the W3C eGovernment Activity, showing how it tackles issues in three main areas: open standards, participation and transparency, data integration. We will discuss the W3C process to produce open standards and how adoption of W3C technologies can improve government through better use of the Web. A relevant issue in participation is the accessibility of web sites, an area where W3C invested effort since its beginning. Data integration is a challenging objective, where semantic web technologies and mobile web can play a significant role.
