Proposed Group: Interlinear Text Layout Community Group
The Interlinear Text Layout Community Group has been proposed by Daniel Mekonnen:
The mission of the Interlinear Text Layout Community Group is to: (1) Document use cases and requirements for interlinear text practices. (2) Develop models for the representation of interlinear text. (3) Develop recommendations for other communities working on standards that could support interlinear text presentation requirements (e.g. HTML, CSS, etc.).
The Interlinear Text Layout Community Group aims to serve a broad range of users engaging in manuscript digitization activities, linguistic annotation, multilingual annotation and related where representing interlinear text in web, ebook and related formats is either limited or not currently possible.
You are invited to support the creation of this group. Once the group has a total of five supporters, it will be launched and people can join to begin work. In order to support the group, you will need a W3C account.
Once launched, the group will no longer be listed as “proposed”; it will be in the list of current groups.

Hi, I believe that one of the main use cases for interlinear layout is for representation of bitext during translation, review, QA, etc.
This doesn’t seem explicitly mentioned in the current proposed scope.. OASIS XLIFF TC is about to start work on its rendering requirements for XLIFF 2, which is the industry standard for bitext exchange, and I believe there is some potential for XLIFF community members to join this if translation bitext representation is confirmed to be in scope..

A belated reply. Yes, bitext translation would be in scope. The hope is that the group develops a general solution for interlinear text that is flexible enough to support all use cases. Establishing broad use cases early is important. I encourage XLIFF members with an interest in the topic to join.
