Descriptions with references

When a citation is given in the paper world, a lot more is given than the International Standard Book Number (ISBN) or Library of Congress catalogue number. Typically, such details of authroship, publisher, title and series title and date are given. Ona library catalogue card one can also find details such as the presentation -- hardback or paperback -- and the number of pages.

This information excedes than considered necessary in object names on the network, but is useful for human consumption. The Gopher system caries a human readable display string along with each reference,and hint-based resolution systems could use such human-destined information as hints for a mchine search to retrieve an archived document.
