Is it possible to make it easy enough for people to provide slightly more
structured information about what they are doing than what is the case with
free wheeling email?
-
Email/news discussions often becomes unwieldy
-
Subject line doesn't match topic anymore
-
People are breaking out of the tree stucture imposed by having just a single
reply-to relationship
-
No filtering capabilities
-
Requests are often not properly tracked and dealt with
-
Manually maintained issues lists are hard to maintain
-
No ownership assignment
These questions have rather severe implications for how we think of metadata.
If we can't break this barrier then metadata
-
is likely primarily to be provided by "professional users".
-
will not move us past file systems and localized databases for information
storage
