This document is based upon the SMIL 2.1 Candidate Recommendation of 13 May 2005. This version now includes the unchanged SMIL 2.0 modules which were previously linked from the CR version. This editorial change does not introduce any technical changes. The Informative Schemas Appendix present in the CR version was removed in this current version, due to lack of resources to update the SMIL 2.0 schemas to reflect the changes introduced into SMIL 2.1. A list of changes since the SMIL 2.1 Candidate Recommendation is available.
Feedback received during that review resulted in clarifications but no major changes. The SYMM Working Group believes that this specification addresses all Candidate Recommendation issues. Evidence of interoperability between at least two implementations of this specification are documented in the Implementation Report.
The SMIL 2.1 test suite along with an implementation report are publicly released and are intended solely to be used as proof of SMIL 2.1 implementability. It is only a snapshot of the actual implementation behaviors at one moment of time, as these implementations may not be immediately available to the public. The interoperability data is not intended to be used for assessing or grading the performance of any individual implementation.
