Ensuring Accessibility Support in HTML5

HTML5 was announced as a W3C Last Call Working Draft on 25 May 2011. The W3C press release invites broad review to determine to what extent HTML5 has met its technical requirements and dependencies. The Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) encourages your comments and participation.

Open Web Platform Weekly Summary - 2011-05-09 - 2011-05-16

Web Tracking and User Privacy Workshop: Test Cases for Privacy on the Web

The level of interest and participation in last month's Workshop on Web Tracking and User Privacy — about a hundred attendees spanning multiple countries, dozens of companies, a wide variety of backgrounds — confirms the broad interest in Do Not Track. Hash URIs

There's been quite a bit of discussion recently about the use of hash-bang URIs following their adoption by Gawker, and the ensuing downtime of that site. The TAG at the W3C have also been drafting a document on Repurposing the Hash Sign for the New Web which takes a rather wider view than just the hash-bang issue, and on which they are seeking comments. All matters of design involve weighing different choices against some criteria that you decide on implicitly or explicitly: there is no single right way of doing things on the web. Here, I explore the choices that are available to web developers around hash URIs and discuss how to mitigate the negative aspects of adopting the hash-bang pattern.

Open Web Platform Weekly Summary - 2011-04-25 - 2011-05-08

I have been busy the last two weeks with traveling for conferences and workshop. I skipped the last weekly summary of the Open Web Platform. Let’s get that right on track and give information for the last two weeks about HTML5 and broader topics such as Web apps discussions and HTTP. The May 22 deadline for entering Last Call is approaching quickly. In two weeks, a new challenging phase of the work is starting. As a reminder we do not exit a recommendation phase but always entering the next one.
