Large, formal ontologies (like OWL) are important

- general applications patterns indeed rely on them

But: use complex ontologies only when
necessary

- you can be a perfectly decent citizen of the Semantic Web if
you do not use OWL, or not even RDFS…

Some of the ontologies may not be that complex

- this is the essence of the development of “profiles” in the
current OWL Working Group
- just a small set of suitable terms to discover new
relationships
