Create updated version of Capabilities document for Payments on the Web

Goals

To provide a capabilities document:

• that accurately reflects the high-level capabilities required for web payments
• that can be easily communicated to a variety of stakeholders in the financial and retail communities
• that is useful for other groups in W3C, especially Working Groups in the Web Payments Activity

Problem statement

There are a number of independent work efforts going on that address portions of what is need to bring payments to the web. Because of the nature of the payments ecosystem and the many areas that payments depends on and integrates with, it is hard to be aware of all of the work that is underway and how each effort and capability relates to one another. This can lead to a duplication of effort across different groups working on standards, and can also result in inconsistent terminology and concepts which can hamper interoperability.

Deliverables

• 2016-01-25 - Working Draft for IG review
• 2016-02-08 - Working Draft for IG review

Dependencies

• Web Payments WG - Flows and other architectural work may need to be reflected in the Capabilities Document, or at least not conflict.

Success criteria

• Provide an effective working draft for review by the IG and WG before our late February face to face meeting.

Concerns

• Gaining greater participation from IG members.
  • @@IJ: There seems to be consensus that is our main issue. Do you have suggested strategies so that we have a better chance of participation in the coming months?
