TechInfo

TechInfo is MIT's distributed CWIS system, very comparable with Gopher but preceding it historically.

Steve Neiderman is the protocol guy, (E40-3-42C, wade@mit.edu, 235-3955). He works for Tim McGovern (TJM@mit.edu, 253-0505) in the DCNS (Distributing Computing and Network Services) department.

See the protocol spec as captured from TechInfo itself on 18/June/92. (Beware: this may change.)

To try out techinfo, you can telnet to techinfo.mit.edu.

Random Points

These guys have written their own SOCKET LIBRARY FOR THE MAC. It is somewhere in file://net-dist@mit.edu/pub maybe /pub/technifo. If you can't find it mail techinfo@mit.edu. Maybe it will solve our bug.
