cf. Bug #740. When the DOCTYPE Override or related features modifies the document data before processing, the Show Source view should reflect this fact by distinguishing the affected source lines. In the case of Bug #740, the lines containing the new DOCTYPE should be highlighted in some fashion.
I believe I disagree that the show source function should show any source but the source of the document and thus disagree with this feature request.
The issue, if I understand it correctly, is that it's difficult to refer to line #n if the line numbers are different before and after the changes (and that happens with doctype override/feedback), and it's difficult to avoid that in the current framework of the validator.
I believe the issue of changing line numbers is no longer a problem as the validator has become more careful in replacing the doctype and should be doing it without adding/removing any linefeeds.
