The definition of blockquote has changed significantly from html4 html4: BLOCKQUOTE is for long quotations (block-level content) http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/struct/text.html#edef-BLOCKQUOTE HTML5 "The blockquote element represents content that is quoted from another source, optionally with a citation which must be within a footer or cite element, and optionally with in-line changes such as annotations and abbreviations." http://www.w3.org/TR/html5/grouping-content.html#the-blockquote-element
