Web video map tracks or WebVMT is an open format designed to synchronize location with video for the web.

In testbed 20, Away Team analyzed two geotagged video use cases to improve data quality and image cognition.

WebVMT footage was recorded with the Track Cam smartphone app aboard a sailing boat shown in orange and aggregated with AIS data that tracks maritime vessels shown in blue.

A navigational issue was identified from open seamap data and corrected by adding a single interpolated waypoint.

This significantly improved the AIS tracking accuracy to within 10 meters of the vessel's course.

Aerial surveillance video of a truck driving along a Wyoming highway was filmed from a circling aircraft.

Inband MSBY location metadata for the sensor location and frame center tags were exported to two WebVMT paths shown in orange and blue respectively.

A WebVMT utility was developed to calculate the geopose of one path from another.

Interpolating these values allows smooth rotation of the map under WebVMT control.

Matching the map's rotation with the camera's heading simplifies geospatial cognition of the video footage.

When combined with photogrammetry data, this feature enables the location of any objects visible in the video to be identified quickly and easily, including those that don't appear on maps.

WebVMT simplifies geotagged video analysis in a web browser.

Sensor and map data have been successfully aggregated with video to significantly improve tracking accuracy.

Video cognition has been enhanced to facilitate accurate location of any object visible.

Full details can be found in the testbed 20 engineering report.
