<scribe> Meeting: COGA Internationalization Subgroup
<Andy7> Hi, I am new and was going to join you all for the first time today. Is it possible to post the meeting link in here? My new account does not have sufficient privileges to view the meeting link that Jan M shared with me.
<Andy7> (This is Andy Manea)
Hi Andy - I just saw your email. I don't believe I am allowed to post it here, but I will send it to your email. I am just now about to join the zoom. I was just setting up the agenda.
<Andy> Thank you so much!!!
Reviewed the feedback from TPAC. Concerns were raised about moving the plain language / internationalization / translation concerns farther left in the authoring of guidance.
Andy: AI can help - people are using this now to help them understand complex language.
During the next Community Group call, we need to discuss the drop-down options to help us remember why we felt something had internationalization concerns. Maybe consider "complex vocabulary" as one option and "complex language / sentence structure" as another.
Tiffany: E.A. would be very helpful for this work if she has time. As part of her work, she is looking at the use of AI for communication across different languages.
Andy: AI supports an abundance of
languages, including indigenous languages that are often under
represented
... German government sites have a simplified language tab, so
we might want to look at something like that.
John: We need a simplified version that has been reviewed and approved by the author.
