<janina> Date 08 May 2023
kate: Reading the document in detail, and preparing for providing responses
… Focusing on agency and human-centered principles
janina: We want to add cross references as well
Human Centered Principles
katew_: Agency means 'capacity to act'. It is related to autonomy.
… You can have autonomy but still be missing agency in particular contexts
… Independence is larger than agency, and they may or may not be mutually exclusive
… Independence is an attribute of a person, whereas agency is something held (or not) in relationship to something (e.g., software)
Lionel: We should express clearly the nature of agency, how users have reasonable expectations of controlling experiences
… and focus on preserving dignity in any setting
katew_: The conduct that we are designing for systems should follow these conventions for decency, civility, manners, digital dignity
… no one has full agency in any experience.
… it is helpful to consider parity. Parity of agency, or experiential parity.
Lionel: Parity is good, keeping in mind that it might play out in qualitatively different ways over time
<janina> https://
katew_: To support this perspective, we can spell out in a clearer what such parity would look like
Lionel: Other helpful links
… to join W3C and the Community Group, https://
