Meeting minutes
<wendyreid> date: 2023-03-28
wendy: No quorum today.
Publishing an update
wendy: Want to pub an update this year. On track w last year's intent. Open a review period in March, which we did accidentally. Goal to put a request to AC in July, ready for TPAC. On track for that.
… Noticed a new issue, already addressed in a different issue, but coudl talk about revising that section
Inclusion funds
wendy: Discussed inclusion fund last week. Email w go out and announce launch of the inclusion fund at AC mtg. Will follow up w a case study about what the fund does and how it impacts people.
… We have some who are happy to share their stories.
… Open question: last year we had inclusion fund and fellowship. Incl fund has no fixed number assiciated. Fellowship was a flat $500 grant w stipulation of participation.
… Last year peole didn't understnad the diff btwn the two.
… Need to better define them.
… Didn't end up using all of our funding last year, so might increase funding this year.
<Ralph> dbooth: do we need to have two funds? if so, why?
wendy: incl fund was if yo uhave a barrier to coming, we can let you come. And fellowship was for doing something in particular, such as presenting a topic. I.e., tangibly contriutining sometthing.
… But $500 prob not enough to pay for someone to come.
… But maybe we don't need both programs. Maybe onely the incl fund.
… Also could be a chance to encouragin joining W3C.
sheila: I think that distinction is significant enough to warrant two. Maybe name them more distinctly.
ralph: The word fellowship always botherd me in this concept, partly because it's similar to the term "W3C Fellow".
… If the distinction is people who have been participants vs other, maybe we don't need to make that distinction
wendy: Last year you had to have a w3c account to apply. But when we swithched to typeform, we removed that requirement.
dbooth: How valuable is the distinctoin, and does it warrant the confusion entailed?
wendy: we could add a sentence saying "if you're not a member, we'll support you"
sheila: Makes sense to have two reasons for funding, and don't want to give up any funding possitiliiby.
wendy: $500 is not enough, but IDK how much is enough. Depends on where they're coming from. E.g. Kenya to Spain won't be done w $500.
<Ralph> Seeking TPAC Inclusion Fund donations [17 August 2021]
dbooth: Suggest combining but listing both criteria.
<Ralph> Opening applications for the Inclusion Fund and Honorarium Fellowships for TPAC 2022 [15 July 2022]
