TPAC debrief
<IrfanAli> janina: WHATWG asked to create a ticket to bring SSML as first class citizen into HTML
<IrfanAli> janina: if that is still the preferred direction, it is good idea to create a ticket
SSML as a first-class object was not rejected out of hand by WHATWG. They said we should create an issue.
<IrfanAli> mhakkinen: who made that statement from WHATWG?
<IrfanAli> janina: Simon Peters, Michael Smith, and Ana
p, s, sub, mark are the tags we know have conflict (possibly audio)
one possible solution is to namespace (e.g., ssml-*) all of the elements which means we already have a prototype imlpementation with custom elements.
another option is to rename the few conflict tags
by versioning SSML
Next Steps
we'll need someone to draft the issue to WHATWG
we'll need to address the conflicts with 1-n solutions and then vote on them as a group?
janina: APA should create the issue. Someone from pronunciation could draft and file/send to list
should we list potential solutions? Or just open the issue and wait for WHATWG to bring them up?
i18n seemed to be a handled issue by the list (RFC here: https://
iANA list here: https://
often used by (maybe we should consult librarians) https://
another item we should address, the growing list metadata that we feel we need
and a possible mechanism for user opt-in
make sure we can merge ELM with SSML
<janina> https://
without EML prototypes do we know it's solving a problem?
<Sarah_Wood> Was it named Mary Open source TTS Systems? Not sure
That might have been the one Debbie mentioned
