JB: Checks agenda
No meeting on the 29th
Next meeting on Jan 12th
JS: Looks right
Updates: publication plans, announcements https://www.w3.org/WAI/cc/wiki/WAI_Announcement_Drafts
JB: We are almost into moratorium
Anything coming out?
JN: We published last CR for ARIA last week, minor no announcement
JB: Thats fine
JS: CAPTCHA FPWD, published tomorrw?
JB: Don't know
JS: Thought we have it cleared with Shawn - not confirmed
JB: Shawn will have more availability in Jan
JS: We were hoping to publish tomorrow- can the messaging follow later?
JB: You can go ahead and we can follow on with messaging etc
JB: Anything else?
I've a question for George on ePub
TS: George has more info
Checking: New work under development, status on cross-WAI review requests
JB: Just to check new work in development - anything that was not mentioned via announcements
And if there are any cross group review requests.
Carried over: Scope of mental health issues in WAI work, not only through Coga TF
JB: Thanks Lisa for joining
JB: GIves overview of the scope of work that WAI is taking up.
Mental health is an area, that is a growing concern a la pandemic etc, and the demographics were already huge
There are relevant a11y accomodations, the COGA TF has been exploring
We may need to come back to this - want to now get a sense of how people look at the issue.
LS: <gives background>
Discussed overlap between people with cognitive issues and depression
mood disorders, etc - Renaldo did a position paper, part of thesis
We wanted more things included but didn't have strong research
Now we are doing lit review
Broadening scope to a11y related issues
We need more volunteers - then after holiidays we will review what we have
We may update Content Usable
JB: <Relays experience working in AT service provision field>
<Discussed meds and how assistive tech can support accessibility with MH conditions etc>
LS: We've been working on this for 6 months
JB: Would like to see
LS: We have a DB and lit review notes etc
<LisaSeemanKest> snapshot https://
JB: URLS?
JB: Wonders about tie ins between ARIA, and Emerging Tech etc
TZ: DIscusses the experience of Long COVID and related syndromes
many are not believed when they say they have issues
Characterised as gaslighting
Wonder if this has come up in your research Lisa?
LS: Not seen that - but we have seen many step processes difficult for those with mood disorders
Dark patterns etc exacerbate anxiety et
JB: Discusses Chronic Fatigue and ME
Screen fatigue is a real problem for this cohort
Long COVID has overlaps - similar supports may be needed
JB: Articulating user needs is tied to assembling solutions
JB: Curious, is this discussed in ePub a11y work?
Josh, Janina does this come up in emerging tech?
Or what kind of training or orientation is needed?
LS: In Personsonalization TF we like to mark up things that are distracting or disturbing
Users may have content they dont want to appear in their feeds etc
Controlling disturbances also
JB: Suppress a trigger?
LS: Do many audio pings also distracting.
<Zakim> tzviya, you wanted to ask how this might be implemented
TZ: I'm not sure how we would implement this - rather vague
We are aware of some best practice but unless documented in WCAG etc, v hard to implement
JB: Wonders about who has spent time with Content Usable
<LisaSeemanKest> https://
GK: When I read it, it seems like good practices in terms of writing
There can be different content for diff groups, not on the UI side
JS: One place we see, is with the semantic content model from personalization - we have an implementation the ADA complaint form is being marked up.
We do need a renderer
One thought from APA, is that we could apply Personalization markup to the Content usable doc would be a good idea.
JB: Ok
A distilled version of that doc is also being discussed
JS: We could get that lighter overview using these semantics.
LS: I've been involved in that discussion
JB: Asks if training on cognitive issues would be useful
TPAC shorts could be used
Anything else that would be helpful to your groups?
JB: Thanks Kim for her comments on the survey
KP: I pointed to GH issue
JB: Voice input user needs input
KP: <Discusses some details>
Having different speech users, fully dependent vs partial
But yes, I did the practical thing.
KP: When doing mobile user examples - several of those are people who use speech only - they are accurate
JB request from XR Access for collaboration on a new project maps to multiple other groups
… maybe rqtf and immersive
josh: how can we relate/work with these
… other work on interacting with XR objects and how would keyboard a11y work
… want sense of how to approach from JB
GK: publishing people would like a starting point for XR etc
josh - have a doc in progress on the wiki - will add to minutes
… Dylan refers to XOR semantics module - that is really under developed
… do we want to work on it to be a "thing"
jB there's a lot in that coordination request - including an a11y object model for XR
… my plan is to give a warm response ASAP and then defer to Josh for details
… then decide which groups to include - eg rqtf
<Joshue108_> Proof of concept for 3D interaction https://
<janina> https://
<Joshue108_> XR Semantics Module https://
<Joshue108_> WebXR Standards and Accessibility Architecture Issues https://
TS: those communities interested in publishing and XR are working now - eg medical
… European a11y act is pushing things nicely so they HAVE to include it
josh - @George please see URI on Architecture above ^^^
TS - talk to ada-rose canon
Josh - concerned about arcitectural decision may be being made and may be brittle in terms of a11y
Carried over: Further discussion on WAI CC meeting frequency, focus, timing
JB no word back from DSPA (signing org that does training)
… any thoughts on frequency of meeting?
JN: every other week or else a long wait if you miss one
+1 to JN
<Ryladog> 12th
JB: first meeting on 2022 will be 15th Jan [Corrected] No, 12th Jan
<LisaSeemanKest> thank you!
<Ryladog> Jan 15th is a Sat
TS: nice news - Lainey Feingold @@ said WAI was a place you need to go to learn about a11y
