<scribe> Scribe: Stefan
James: Agreement: Next meeting
August, 13th
... 4 new issues ..
<jamesn> https://github.com/w3c/aria/issues/1302
James: 1302 landmark nesting .. doese someone wants to take it?
Carolyn: we need decision .. then I can reply
James: we say should, not must
Harris: this is best practices issue, no violation
James: I agree
... there could be structure reasons where this is
unavoidable
Janina: without something as aside screen reader has no idea that something is outside
James: you agree that this should be prohibited? Janina: Ys
Stefan: what about iframe content?
James: yes this is a issue so better not forbid it
<carmacleod> https://github.com/w3c/core-aam/issues/75
Joanie: no milestone on it
James: whatever you like for core aam
Carolyn: trees mac vs windows was a topic
James: can you ping me about to put it to discussion
James on 13th
Matt: tree thing is related to
tree grids ..
... you can do without me if I have a meeting conflict on
13th
Carolyn: some dev want guys to join dicsussion
Janina: participation acknowledgement is on the chairs
Matt: I want Aaron on the
call
... we have aria-level issues in treegrid
... can you turn list into treegrid .. these are open
questions
... is there convenient and common way to be done
James: depndant on way data i
pulled in ..
... but we have multiple topics to discuss, so Carolyn invite
the deeply involved people, we need exxpertise
James: we made some progress on
accname
... tackeling whitespace.. 9 related issues filed yet
... we should triage on whitespace issues
... OK? OK for Biran?
Bryan: I can do that
... since I own the spec .. makes sense
<jamesn> https://github.com/w3c/accname/issues/83
<carmacleod> https://github.com/w3c/accname/issues/83
Matt: different browsers/readers do different things .. if only accname spec changes maybe this won't help at all
Bryan: Jaws/NVDA need to be
adressed first (error handling)
... needs to be negotiated across the board if there is common
treatment agreement
... need to check CSS first because of technical reasons
Matt: are there differences in AT related to accname spec? this would be interesting to know
james: Bryan do you go through each of these issues separately?
Matt: any concerns about unexpected side effects .. ist complicated
ames: some of thm can be tackled separately, eg. nr 5
Bryan: yes, this is editorial
James: accdescription can contain
whitespace and can be used to override title
... for accName that makes no sense
<carmacleod> https://w3c.github.io/aria/#aria-description doesn't mention an empty string value
Stefan: can accDescription be
completely empty to override title? James: I think yes
... can aria-description be completely empty to override title?
James: I think yes
Bryan: I handle the accName related stuff
Matt: (offers help)
James: what is whitespace for us?
HTML and CSS defs differ here
... browser devs could answer that .. we need to as them
... I put this question on my top prio deep dive label list
Bryan: I give you update next time we meet
Matt: when we do change from
deprecation to prohibiting .. what consequences have that for
certain accName calculations?
... when things are prohibited accName calculation has to
reflect that
... potential clash between accName spec and ARIA spec .. we
need to synchronize that with ARIA always first
