Going over planning actions

Next iteration this month - end April 2020

This week editing Steve, Lisa and Rachael - John K and Steve Wayfinding paper

Are any User needs missing - leading to any patterns - draft on patterns has to close

The same applies to the Mental Health - David F and John K

<LisaSeemanKest_> next item

Content usable needs to have review

<LisaSeemanKest_> https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-cognitive-a11y-tf/2020Apr/0007.html\

David F felt that impact on social media causing issues, anxiety disorders may have negative impact when certain images appear and the lose attention and cannot cope with further navigation of page

<LisaSeemanKest_> https://docs.google.com/document/d/15LmZSDbsfJz2LFrQ60g47hO6UsbMRSmthM462GSYgo4/edit#heading=h.90gqo3xc0983

Lisa is suggesting she walks through the to do list - mental health new patterns and need to check user needs are correct.

Lisa read out the user need for mental health...Lisa felt that first statement inclusive of new research.

<kirkwood> +1 to cognitive stress

<Jennie> +1

discussed issue around safety so wanted to change this to cognitive stress -

+1

Lisa wanted to also use the word affected and not triggered

<kirkwood> I do like the word triggered though

<kirkwood> ok fine. scratch that

<LisaSeemanKest_> User Story: Safety As a user with sensitivities that can be triggered by content (eg content that is busy, confusing, depressing, loud noise), I need content that I can cope with so that I can be successful. This also includes the following user needs: I need to avoid triggers I need to feel safe.

<LisaSeemanKest_> Risk of feeling safe and being safe…

David F commented that he could not find the personas that matched to the issues - technical term is aversive rather than negative.

David feels it is important to see these issues in the content - cognitive overload so Lisa suggested this could go into Tom.

<kirkwood> overloaded can be added to Tom, agree

David mentioned the one that loses self-confidence - could add that is triggers depression - add to selective personas.

Lisa is concerned about adding another Persona as would need to be within a week

<LisaSeemanKest_> Cognitive Stress

<LisaSeemanKest_> As a user with sensitivities that can be affected by content (eg content that is busy, confusing, depressing, loud noises and aversive content ), I need content that I can cope with so that I can be successful.

<LisaSeemanKest_> This also includes the following user needs:

<LisaSeemanKest_> I need simple consistent content

<LisaSeemanKest_> I need to avoid and recover from mental fatigue

<LisaSeemanKest_> I need to sometimes avoid types of content, such as social media, distractions, noises or triggers

+1

<LisaSeemanKest_> I need to make less mistakes and errors

<LisaSeemanKest_> I need to know I am safe and secure when using a website, especially if providing information or communicating with others.

Lisa moving across to Patterns - altering existing or making new patterns... former better than latter

Lisa gave an example of design ideas behind making a form...

Lisa said need consistent content to be merged with too much content

need recover from mental fatigue - add to too much content and avoid data loses

also how it helps

need to avoid certain types of content... link to distractions - Lisa suggested to limit interruptions - or avoid iterruptions and offer a list of types of content and then add to how it helps

Increase the scope of the last user need

I need to make less mistakes and add to this and errors

safe and secure on a website - can be added to safety and let them know they are safe as well as being safe

<LisaSeemanKest_> I need simple consistent content -add to :6.3 Pattern: Avoid Too Much Content

<LisaSeemanKest_> ok?

<LisaSeemanKest_> +1

+1

Lisa suggested that she, David and Rachael go through the patterns and add these with edits

<LisaSeemanKest_> +1

<stevelee> +1

<kirkwood> let me know as well

<kirkwood> +1

<LisaSeemanKest_> next item

Racael to send invitation out for a Monday meeting on patterns.

sorry Rachael

<LisaSeemanKest_> https://docs.google.com/document/d/15LmZSDbsfJz2LFrQ60g47hO6UsbMRSmthM462GSYgo4/edit#

<LisaSeemanKest_> https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZBLYTSYpQsAkEkDUpA2gtBMHHF1EMnHar3WDqEhBYsU/edit#

Lisa has edited the document and added elements to the top pattern, but felt it still needed some more work

<LisaSeemanKest_> 3.2.8.3 Pattern: Provide Help with Directions

<LisaSeemanKest_> (or Pattern: Do Not Rely on Users Memorizing Information)

<LisaSeemanKest_> User Need

<LisaSeemanKest_> $$$.

<LisaSeemanKest_> Related User Story: Support.

<LisaSeemanKest_> Description

<LisaSeemanKest_> Content is provided that helps users understand directions and navigational systems. This can included

<LisaSeemanKest_> - Allow user to prepare for and review the entire route and next step

Steve suggested about clarifying the start of the task and Lisa added to review the whole journey through the task 3.8.3 descrption

<LisaSeemanKest_> - Provide landmarks that can easily be be recognised

<LisaSeemanKest_> - Provide cardinal directions (ie general or global)

<LisaSeemanKest_> - Facilitate reorientation when get off the route

<LisaSeemanKest_> - Support awareness of distances

<LisaSeemanKest_> - Personalization of terms such as directions and measurements

<LisaSeemanKest_> - Allow user to prepare for and review the entire route and next step

Steve asked if the changes should be merged - or have elements added

Help with directions pattern being discussed

should it be split?

of those 5 potential patterns are they all going to be added to help directions or do we need new patterns or Lisa said could they be added to avoisd mistakes?

<kirkwood> agreed

Steve described the options - and said the majority could go into Provide Help with Directions ...

<LisaSeemanKest_> are you all happry with adding to patter on directions?

<LisaSeemanKest_> +1

<stevelee> +1

Steve mentioned directions and different measurements - Lisa felt this was something that should stay - not worried if it is repeated

John K suggested that when dealing with maps you also need to have the arrow to highlight the direction in which you are going.

Lisa gave an action to John to look at the list before Monday

<LisaSeemanKest_> john k edit https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZBLYTSYpQsAkEkDUpA2gtBMHHF1EMnHar3WDqEhBYsU/edit#

David talked about the issue of mentally processing things like changing feet to cms can cause problems when driving etc

Lisa said there are several places where these items can be added

<LisaSeemanKest_> Provide Help with Directions

<LisaSeemanKest_> +1

May change the name of the pattern

<stevelee> +1

<kirkwood> +1

Success and failure also needs more work

Lisa suggested that we can add to a Persona after the review.

<LisaSeemanKest_> next item

<Rachael> https://raw.githack.com/w3c/coga/WD-content-usable-20200327/content-usable/index.html#pattern-make-the-purpose-of-your-page-clear

Structure proposal - Rachael to take this on and said they had been working on flattenly the structure - remove <h6> tags and italics

<Rachael> https://github.com/w3c/coga/pull/108/files

not remove italics... but change order and switch design guide

Rachael went on to say other elements were moved up <h5> up to <h4> and summary section added - same as wiki but not mapped to current version

Steve liked the change of the style guide to be in the new position

<Rachael> EA: Agrees with change.

<Rachael> Lisa: started w/ subsection. Had user stories and personas under the building in users. Now they are standing on their own. 6 Sections instead of 3 Sections.

<Rachael> ...Balance looks about the same to me.

John K liked the changes but wanted the fact that the user stories are in place but need to have a link early on - first paragraph?

<Fazio_> +1 to the structure

Steve mentioned that the introduction could be moved into 2.1 so you do not have two levels.

Steve suggests Change the title to cognitive and learning difficulties so removes the two levels

<kirkwood> I’d keep introduction

Lisa is not sure this is helpful and perhaps this needs thinking about

<LisaSeemanKest_> q>

<Jennie> * have to sign off

<LisaSeemanKest_> sorry

]JohnK agreed as summary is different.

Lisas move user testing out of objectives 2.2.1 - but put all the testing together like user needs. There will be another reivew

review

<LisaSeemanKest_> please add your comments by email

Editors call cancelled - Lisa thanking everyone
