Eric started the meeting.

Updates from Eric

Eric: Working on some of the technical logistics behind the scenes.
... Next few weeks I will be diving into the HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Hope to have many things worked out by mid August, with Caleb's help. Then we can begin moving content over.
... Eric will be skipping some of the EOWG planning and Friday meetings in order to achieve his tasks with the redesign effort.

WAI Resources Update

Eric: We have started to poll participants for gathering data for which resources individuals would like to lead the efforts on.

Information Architecture

Eric: Most of the concern that Shadi and Shawn had was the resources that we are planning, or have been recommended to be archived.
... We all agreed that the "archived" resources would not go away (be deleted, removed) but just not updated to the new site. Can still link to them in specific cases of need.
... There are some concerns, but we will work through the issues and continue to make steps in the right direction.
... One that we do need to be careful about archiving is the WAI Projects. Many entities must still link to them.

Charlotte: At one time we had discussed having a link or something to the archive for those that are looking for the information/resources that are not added to the updated site.

<Laura> I remember that too.

Sharron: Yes, we did discuss that at one of the face to face meetings. We did not land on a specific solution.

Eric: Yes, We should leave the pages as they are, and place a disclaimer or message on top that says they are looking at an archived page that will not be updated.

Brent: Charlotte, what is your recommendation for how to handle getting people to the archved pages?

Charlotte: I would recommend having some sort of link in the footer to the archived pages.
... Include a disclaimer at the top of all archived pages letting people know that they are archived and will not be in our normal maintanance schedule for updates.
... Something that screen readers will be sure to hit every time those pages are loaded.
... Could also have a page that lists all of the archived materials.
... The last thing I would want is for someone to use the new search tool and find results that will lead them to archived content.

<yatil> [ Archived pages probably without navigation ]

Charlotte: The archived content should not be in the new visual design, right?

Brent: Yes, correct.

Eric: And it would also be important to take out the navigation on those pages as well.

Laura: We need to make these archived pages pretty difficult to find. Not unfindable, but difficult to find because we don't want them going to the archived pages but to the updated content.

Sharron: +1 to Laura

Brent: +1 to Laura

Eric: There are some smaller issues that we will need to figure out, like when a resources that was one page gets split into three pages. How would we link to them (in terms of archiving resources). We will figure those out later.

Charlotte: Do we have any other comments that will be coming in? I need them now as I will be doing this work in the next week.

Eric: I will send out an email to the group to ask for final comments.
