W3C launched the Web Payments Working Group Patent Advisory Group (PAG) in response to disclosures and exclusions by Visa Europe within the Web Payments Working Group. In September 2016, the Web Payments Working Group PAG recommended that W3C issue this call for prior art to inform the PAG's discussions and deliverables.
Note on timing: While W3C welcomes information at any time, responses as soon as possible and ideally before 31 December 2016 are encouraged.
For more information about this PAG, see its home page and charter. For more about PAGs in general, see the W3C Patent Policy.
The goal of this call for prior art is to collect information that would help to ensure that people may implement the (future) Recommendations of the Web Payments Working Group under patent licensing terms consistent with the Royalty-Free Licensing Requirements of the W3C Patent Policy.
The PAG seeks information about prior art related to the disclosures and exclusions by Visa Europe, where that prior art is available in the public domain or on terms consistent with W3C's Royalty-Free Licensing Requirements.
Information relevant to prior art (e.g., filing date) is available from patent offices and other online databases.
By issuing this call for prior art, neither W3C nor the participants of the Web Payments Working Group PAG make or imply any comment whatsoever on the relevance of the disclosed patents to the deliverables of the Web Payments Working Group, or on the validity of the disclosed patents.
Please send responses to the PAG's public mailing list: public-wpwg-pag@w3.org (archive).
