Arthur: we are working on
interfaces for the device for Genivi platform for SOTA
... we want other systems on the vehicle to be able to interact
with OTA
... we have a RESTful open source API publicly available

Ted summarizes SOTA discussions to date and W3C standardization in general
Arthur: there is general
agreement in wanting to standardize around OTA
... this is potentially usable for upgrading embedded devices
in general and not just for vehicles
... US DHS has expressed interest and creating a test suite for
this. having clear standards will help testing effort as
well
Paul: The BG is about exploring
ideas (incubator) and the WG for standardization. This would
start in the BG
... are there any interfaces in the car at the Genivi level or
are they lower down per vehicle?
Arthur: at the Genivi level. The
vehicle can be presented with an application package for
update, it could be a whole binary fs partition
... another for firmware. you are probably not going to get a
standard for all types of updates, perhaps separate for
each
... means of getting updates to device (vehicle), applying and
confirming they are applied could be standardized
Paul: we had this conversation with The Magnuses, do you feel there are areas that should be within the realm of W3C - being Web in nature. Question for you and Ted
Arthur: I will need help there
too in deciding where
... ATS is a fan of the web and REST approach, Genivi model is
based on their RVI
Paul: can you elaborate?
Arthur: RVI is basic socket communication, client has support for service discovery etc but it is not "webby"
Paul: W3C is not all webby
Ted: true but we're still webby
Arthur: there are still communication levels over the web with RVI
Paul: there is a question of
standardizations, exchanging ideas and gathering
requirements
... BG is setup where open ideas are exchanged and explored for
possible standards work
[discussion of upcoming Genivi AMM and W3C WG F2F including SOTA agenda item and participants]
PhillippeC: not much to report other than I will have a mockup ready as a starting point for this topic
Paul: does 9:30-10:30 work for you on Friday?
PhilippeC: only reminding point is WebIDL
Paul: there will be a general architecture discussion on Thursday at 9am on WebIDL vs Web Sockets
PhilippeR: what are the plans for security discussions during the W3C F2F?
Ted: we will summarize activity, start of ideas for guidelines. some of the possible guideline editors will not be in Paris
Paul: it is set for 1pm on Tuesday
PhilippeR: I am in the process of
restarting the security activity within Genivi as well
... I will make the scope public
Paul: thank you for welcoming anyone worth participating from W3C side
