KP: introduces where work is stored
<alan_smith> Request for link to scribe instructions that I lost as I changed jobs.

RESOLUTION: Accept updates to the FM001 Failure of 2.5.3
<David> An web page has
KP: We have worked on touch target size last week.
2.5.4 was finished last week
Looking at 2.5.5
Device manipulation
AG: Is that shaking the device? Is there a definition for device manipulation?
AS: I am also concerned at the
choice of words. SOme devices have a stylus, where the main
control is not a gesture.
... when "device interaction is required" is what I am thinking
about.
DM: If there are any physical manipulation that are beyond touch and keyboard, there must be a touch and keyboard alternative. For example, a shaking gesture might be impossible for someone with a chair mounted device. They need another touch or keyboard means of interacting.
AG: maybe instead of device manipulation maybe we should use motion control. We are using the device as a motion controller. Shaking, tilt, roll, thrust, wave
CM: I can wave at the camera.
AS: Voice input as well.
<jon_avila> what about other device manipluation such as the mute button
KP: there are other sounds as well.
<jon_avila> It's much more than just movement
JF: We have the technology today that is gesture in front of the camera.
DM: I think we should break them into broad categories --
CM: We need a broad term and then specific techniques
DM: Gestures are too specific a term.
JF: If everyone on the call recognizes "device manipulation", then just define it and use the term.
AG: I think "physical device manipulation"
<jon_avila> Article about different types of interactions/manipulations http://uwdata.github.io/hcid520/readings/Hinckley-SensingMobile.pdf
DM: manipulation is physical.
AG: We need to separate out the touch aspect.
<David> Definition of manjipulation : to move or control (something) with your hands or by using a machine
<David> http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/manipulate
<jon_avila> holding, proximity, touch, voice, walking, shaking, looking at, angle of holding, etc.
AG: We may have to say that visual is different and covered in a different section. Voice input is different and covered in a different section
DM: We haven't talked about holding your hand to the camera is another area that we need to work in.
KP: We are talking about physical movement of the phone for this SC.
DM: It would be a different success criterion for visual and voice input.
KP: Physical, visual to the camera, voice to the microphone.
<jon_avila> Are device buttons covered here or somewhere else?
AG: It is interaction with the phone without using the screen.
DM: Would we also want to include
GPS as another issue? I think that is independent of the
user.
... I think we should not address the issues of how the device
operates without interaction with the user (GPS, accelerometer,
etc)
<JF> +1
JS: I think we should capture the issues with input, and addres them later, and we should focus on finishing 2.5 Touch.
<David> David: want to distinguish between the device relationship to the person, and the device relationship to the evnironment. Mike, camera and shaking are related to the person, whereas GPS, accelerator, height measurement etc are the devices relationship to the environment.
CM: Then device manipulation doesn't belong under touch.
<David> David: I think we need to address the device relationship to person, but not device relationship to environment.
