HTML Working Group

~550 emails/month on public-html (~500 in October), and ~400 emails/month on public-html-a11y (~640 in October)
24 issues (escalated bugs) closed since April 1st; 7 since Sep 1st; 3 since Oct 1st.
35 new issues
Eight documents published on June 24 and on October 25, including two new documents:
- Polyglot Markup: HTML-Compatible XHTML Documents
- HTML5: Techniques for providing useful text alternatives

October 1	Cutoff for bugs to be considered as pre-LC feedback, enhanced change control
December 8	All bugs filed by cutoff date addressed by editors
January 22	Cutoff for escalating bugs for pre-LC consideration
February 23	Every issue has at least one Change Proposal
March 22	All calls for counter-proposals complete
April 22	All issues resolved; LC resolution presented to group
May 22	Fixable LC objections addressed; LC resolution

As of November 1:

43 bugs needs to be addressed by December 8
39 unresolved issues (including 12 raised since October 1)
7 change proposals are expected at the moment. Pending chair decisions on 13 issues. 4 issues are ready for survey. 13 are ready for call for proposals.

Waiting for proposals:

ISSUE 9 video-accessibility: How accessibility works for <video> is unclear. (waiting of review of requirements document)

- Support for timed track added on October 14
ISSUE-129: aria-mapping: replace or modify the ARIA section of the HTML5 spec (deadline: Nov 21)
ISSUE-131: caret-location-API Should we add a caret location API to canvas, or is the focus API sufficient? (waiting for call for proposals)

Waiting on review of the proposals:

ISSUE-31 missing-alt: What to do when a reasonable text equivalent is unknown/unavailable?
ISSUE-80 title-alternative:Document conformance and device dependent display of title attribute content.

Waiting on decision:

The importance of HTML5 has an uprising technology is increasing (talks, industries, etc.)
W3C needs to revamp the HTML part of the site and make it a portal for a more general (including non-technical) audience
The testing effort, while still not well attended, is slowly taking off (thanks to Microsoft and Opera). We have first implementation results for 215 tests. Around 600+ tests are in the pipeline for approval (mainly around canvas). We need:
1. More tests. A lot more tests!
2. User agents to give updated results on the larger testsuite
3. People to get involved!
