So what is the Semantic Web?

• There is a growing number of application patterns referring to the Semantic Web:

  • knowledge engineering with complex ontologies
  • better data management, archiving, cataloging, digital libraries, …
  • managing, coordinating, combining Web services
  • intelligent software agents
  • improving search (usually using domain specific vocabularies…)
  • etc
  • and, of course, mixtures of these…

• But: what binds these all together?
