Highlights

Since launching LMI activities in July 2006, Internet connectivity for the PEARL coffee cooperative has resulted in:

• Rwandan coffee producers communicating directly with their buyers for the first time
• Coffee producers able to communicate with one another over the Internet and avoiding costly, dangerous, and time consuming travel
• Maraba community members able to communicate with family members dispersed because of the 1994 war and genocide
• Maraba community members able to access news, information, and educational resources (key to preventing future genocide)
• Previously unemployed Maraba community members working in the local telecenter
• Local school able to access online educational resources and supplement their paltry library
