= Pop-Up Support in mobile web browsers=
Pop-Up support in web browsers running in a mobile device show quite different behaviours:
- Some mobile browsers crash (due to limited support of client-side scripting or even no support at all).
- Some only substitute current content being displayed for the new page (no pop-up, with same behaviour as activating a normal hyperlink in a web page).
- Some open a new window/tab but without the user realizing what happenned. In this case only expert users know that they previous web page is still available and that they can shift from one window or tab to another.
In general, pop-ups should be avoided for universal web browser support (using instead simple hyperlinks, for example).
Take into account that client-side scripting (JavaScript, ECMAScript, ...) is not supported in Mobile Web Best Practices 1.0 Basic Guidelines' Default Delivery Context (as it is not supported by XHTML 1.0 Basic) and that pop-ups usually mean loss of context for users' experience and this is more critical when dealing with mobile devices due to their limited resources (screen, web browsers' features, ...).
@@@ Nacho: thinking of adding some screenshots to examplify (avoiding brands and models and showing only browsers' web content display area).
