ISSUE-35: [longer term] EMMA should perhaps be easier to consume
[longer term] EMMA should perhaps be easier to consume

- Description:
- An issue was raised during the MMI call on Feb 26 about making emma easier to
consume. Essentially, do we expect an emma consumer to always have to deal with
the full space of possible emma documents? (e.g. when working with a speech
recognizer, can you restrict your handling to a one-of of interpretations or do
you have to handle groups and sequences etc.?)
If so should there be some meta data to help in understanding the structure of
the emma doc or some other mechanisms to help in extracting data from it?
If not, should there be profiles for different types of generators (e.g. a
speech recognizer) that define the constraints on the emma documents that they
produce?
The core of the issue is that while lot of work has gone into allowing the
producer to express various types of results, its not clear if we have really
looked at the needs of the consumer. This may not require changes to the spec
itself -- notes or profiles may be sufficient to address this.
