W3C's involvement in voice standards work:
- The Web started as a visual medium with HTML, images, etc.
- Aural style sheets for rendering HTML to speech (keyboard for
input)
- Work on accessibility for people with visual impairments
- W3C workshop on voice browsers (October 1998)
- Voice Browser working group set up (March 1999)
- Speech interface framework requirements (December 1999)
- Specifications under development
- A new charter has been reviewed by the AC
