Product: Persistence of Identifiers
Goals
The goals of this work are
- to identify and work towards improvements in Web
naming technologies in support of identifier persistence;
- to specify good
practices in designing and deploying naming schemes;
- to improve awareness of
where the real strengths and vulnerabilities of the
http:
URIs are;
- to catalyze efforts to enable 'robust' domain names, as a key constituent
of Web-based identifier persistence
Success criteria
- The TAG continues to work with relevant constituencies in pursuit of point
(1) and (4) above;
- The TAG publishes either a full W3C Recommendation or a TAG finding that
effectively communicates points (2) and (3) above.
- The above outputs address not only the status of
http:
vs.
other URI schemes as regards persistence, but also that of URNs.
