UAAG 2.0 Changes in response to Last Call comments

This document gives an overview of changes made to UAAG 2.0 in response to the 102 issues received from 12 commenters on the Last Call working drafts of 7 November 2013 of UAAG 2.0 and Implementing UAAG 2.0.
Introduction
- The Abstract has been revised for clarity
- The Introduction sections on Relationship with WCAG and ATAG has been moved from Implementing UAAG 2.0 to UAAG 2.0.
- The Table of Contents links have been expanded to include the short name of the Principle or Guideline
- The Overview has been revised for clarity
- The Levels of Conformance have been revised for consistency of terms and adding information formerly in Implementing UAAG 2.0
- The UAAG Conformance Applicability Notes have been revised to add: Retrieved Content Only, Current Content Only, Vertical Layout Languages, Add-Ons (Extensions and Plug-ins), Relationship with Operating System or Platform. The Applicability Note on RFC 2119 Language Not Used has been edited for clarity.
Guidelines and Success Criteria
- The guideline Summaries were edited for clarity.
- Guideline 1.4 Text Customization received an extensive rewrite:
- 1.4.1 changed short name to "Basic text formatting (Globally)" and added a new bullet for line spacing (from 1.4.3). "Platform fonts" was changed to "installed fonts".
- 1.4.2 changed short name to "Basic text formatting (by Element)". The text element types added links to the existing headings and input fields. Bullet point changes included adding text scale, line spacing and text style.
- 1.4.3 changed short name to "Blocks of text (Globally)". The specific numbers associated with spacing were replaced with more flexible guidance. Line spacing moved to 1.4.1 (level A) and 1.4.2; text style moved to 1.4.2 (by element); word spacing was removed; margins was added from 1.4.6 (level AAA).
- 1.4.4 was reworded to change the associated Note to bullet points of the success criterion to clarify that the printing was of the rendered content, but that the margins could be adjusted to the print area rather than the window size.
- 1.4.5 changed short name to "Advanced text formatting (Globally)". Line spacing was removed.
- 1.4.6 Spacing, Capitalization and Hyphenation (Globally) was removed as the bullet points were already addressed in previous success criteria.
- 1.6.3 Advanced Speech Characteristics was rephrased to be conditional "If synthesized speech is produced..." to make it consistent with other success criterion in 1.6 Provide synthesized speech configuration.
- 1.8.7 Reflow text was removed and replaced by 3 success criteria: 1.8.14 Multi-Column Text Reflow; 1.8.15 Ignore Absolute Layout Dimensions; 1.8.16 Linearize Content
- 1.8.10 Provide Viewport History added a new item/bullet-point "user's form field entries" which was requested to better support needs of people with cognitive disabilities.
- 1.9.1 Outline view was reworded to remove the "important elements" clause to make it testable.
- 1.10.1 Show related elements was reworded to be more specific and improve testability by reducing the related elements to labels, table captions and table cells with their row/column headers.
- Principle 2 Note added an additional example to help clarify that references to keyboard do not necessarily mean physical keyboards.
- 2.3.1 changed the short name to Allow Direct Navigation to Enabled Elements and was edited to remove the term "important elements" in order to improve testability.
- Added 2.3.2 Allow Direct Activation of Enabled Elements (level AA).
- 2.5.2 changed short name to Provide Structural Navigation by Heading and within Tables and added a bullet point of "by content sections".
- 2.5.3 changed short name to Configure Structural Navigation and Views and edited the success criterion to remove the term "important elements" and improve testability.
- 2.9.1 Adjustable Time Limits to add bullet points in alignment with WCAG and ATAG.
- 3.1.1 Reduce Interruptions was removed as not testable.
- 3.2.x Form Auto-Fill (level AA) and 3.2.y Save Form Entries (level AA) were added from a request by the Cognitive Accessibility Task Force.
- 3.3.3 Document All Features (level AA) was added from a request by the Cognitive Accessibility Task Force.
- 5.1.1 Comply with WCAG added a sentence to the note recommending that non-web-based user agents follow Guidance on Applying WCAG 2.0 to Non-Web Information and Communications Technologies (WCAG2ICT).
- Components of UAAG 2.0 Conformance Claims added a new item requesting the type of compliance (User Agent or Add-on only)
- Conformance Declarations added new categories of Not Applicable.
- Limited Conformance for Add-ons paragraph was edited for clarity and consistency of terms.
- Added a definition for "available printing devices".
- Added a definition for "directly".
- Removed the definition of "important elements".
- Edited the definition of "recognize" and added a definition for "recognized actions".
- Added a definition for RFC2119.
- Edited the definition of "user agent add-on".
- Added bibliography reference to WCAG2ICT.
- Edited the Acknowledgements to reflect the changed name for the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR).
UAAG 2.0 Reference (formerly Implementing UAAG 2.0)
- The document name has been changed from Implementing UAAG 2.0 to UAAG 2.0 Reference: Explanations, Examples, and Resources for User Agent Accessibility Guidelines 2.0.
- A new section was added to each success criterion "Applies To" which clarifies whether the SC applies to the user interface or rendered content.
- Levels of Conformance was rewritten for clarity and to amplified detail from UAAG while reducing duplication of material.
- A new section Using Levels was added to provide more guidance in the importance of levels and how they could be implemented.
- The sections Relationship to WCAG and Relationship to ATAG have been moved to UAAG 2.0 introduction.
- An example in 1.2.2 has been edited to provide greater clarity on the action of the user agent.
- An example in 1.3.1 has been removed because it was no longer relevant.
- 1.4.2 Intent has been augmented with information on low vision difficulties with font styles bold, italic and underline. A paragraph was added explaining how user stylesheets can be used to control characteristics by element type. 1.4.2 has a new example of a low vision user using text styles.
- 1.4.5 has a new resource for 1.3.1 Highlighted Items and 1.3.2 Highlighting Options
- 1.8.2 example has minor edits for clarity.
- 1.8.14 Multi-Column Text Reflow, 1.8.15 Ignore Absolute Layout Dimensions and 1.8.16 Linearize Content have new Intent, Examples, and Resources, some of which have been reworded from the deleted 1.8.7.
- An example in 1.10.1 has been edited for clarity
- 2.2.1 Direct Navigation to Important Elements added Resources links to major platform keyboard shortcut documentation.
- 2.3.2 Allow Direct Activation of Enabled Elements has new Intent, Examples and Resources.
- 2.5.2 Provide Structural Navigation by Heading and within Tables has an example which has been edited for clarity, and to provide a specific platform example.
- 2.9.1 Adjustable Time Limits examples were edited for clarity.
- 2.11.3 Execution Toggle has a new example of a low vision user and the problems of mouseover scripts used with very large font sizes.
- 2.11.4 Adjustable Playback Rates has a new resource that refers information on enabling or disabling tracks to 1.1.1.
- 3.2.x Form Autofill and 3.2.y Save Form Entries has new Intent, Examples and Resources.
- 3.3.x Document All Features has new Intent, Examples and Resources.
