<scribe> scribe: Rich
Janina: What do you want to share about CSUN
Rich: ARIA announcement was talked about very much at CSUN.
lisa: don’t see anything new
janina: this is the minutes from the last meeting 2 weeks
ago
... anything to correct?
RESOLUTION: Publish the minutes as submitted
janina: fyi they dates have been announced for TPAC 2014
... it will be at the Marriott in Santa Clara, CA
... It is the last week of October -
Monday the 27th
... I am assuming that PF will want to meet and we would prefer the
earlier part of the week
... please make plans
... we had a request for SVG to
meet with us. So, we are finally going to do something other than a workaround for
graphics
... it is Monday through Friday
... Our proposal is for PF to meet
Monday and Tuesday. HTML meets Thursday and Friday
JF: looking at 74000 tests
... the key is to keep the
momentum rolling
Rich: can we get some of these test writers to author tests for ARIA 1.1?
JF: let’s talk off line. We want to know what works where
... I don’t see why not. We are also testing ATs
Cynthia: a subset would work. Jeremay Smurlin has a set of tests with HTML5 and ARIA - it is exhaustive. Jeremy is on the office team.
JF: I will get out a URL. We have a githu repository
Rich: we might make 1.1 on time
Janina: we are going to
janina: 1.0 is history and a W3C Recommendation
... http://www.w3.org/2014/03/aria.html.en
... so now for 1.1
... we have one
new feature in there but more coming. We want to reorganize our documents.
... we are
seeing people want to work with respec and github
... We will see another
publication
RS: ARIA 1.1 will include the gaps that we have in HTML 5.0, e.g. table.
... Also elements we need for mobile, e.g. switch role.
... Problem with Web components, can't access content inside.
... Get access to selector elements.
... Also we will update the implementation guide.
... Digital Publication Interest Groups discusses ARIA roles.
... ARIA roles and fallback semantics.
... Define semantics for elearning assessments.
... Many modules by other authors. PF will review them.
Lisa: I like the workflow, but we need to take care that we don't overload the authors.
... We may want to just have one spec rather than many modules.
... In the past we merged the specs of roles and states & properties.
... Looked at SVG chart spec. Should harmonize our table approach with them.
... A chart as a multi-dimensional table. Same syntax.
janina: that is one reason we are trying to keep this all in PF
cynthia: I did some work on a different project and although charts and spreadsheets look similar under the covers but at the user front end they think of these as charts and arrows.
janina: can we move this topic to email?
... the authoring
guide is alive and we will be ramping that up.
jong: I want to participate
janina: we would welcome your help
... james nurther, matt
king, and Jon Gunderson have expressed interest in working on the authoring practices
... I want to touch on HTML accessibilty’s face to face
<JF> s/We have a githu repository/We have a github repository: https://github.com/Open-A11y-Testing/Test-Site
janina: apparently, a small group got together at CSUN and wants
to bring table summary back
... I thought we were going to use aria-describedat to do
this.
... any discussion?
JF: I don’t think that is what we decided. We decided to let the
open bug that Josh O’conner drop
... we were looking to make some editorial changes in
5.1 and potentially bring back to 5.0
... Leonie and I had a take away to put
something in the techniques document. we were not looking to bringing table summary
back
... no normative change is being planned
cynthia: what John said is a lot less scary than what what Janina said
janina: summary is obsolete
JF: because it is obsolete it will work but will cause a validation error
cynthia: validation is not a requirement for WCAG
MichaelC: We want techniques that are future compatible.
Janina: we lost the table summary battle a while ago
... I
am more comfortable regarding tomorrow’s meeting
JF: Michael Cooper you were at the meetings and that is correct?
MichaelC: yes
lisa: I submitted something to the list for charts and graphs
Rich: the HTML 5.1 spec. will not have a mapping
Jamesn: As long as it is in the HTML5 implementation guide it is confusing
Cynthia: the spec. is not supported
<jamesn> http://www.w3.org/TR/html-aapi/#table-element
Janina: thanks to IBM and participants for the Cognitive task force panel at CSUN
Janina: recruiting for some of our efforts was very good at
CSUN
... Comcast to join IndieUI, ARIA, and media subteam
Lisa: trying to get 1 or 2 on the task force. I am working to get someone who has produced an open source symbol set.
Janina: that is great.
MichaelC: action 1378 Gottfried was supposed to review the nearfield communication API
<MichaelC> action-1378?
<trackbot> action-1378 -- Gottfried Zimmermann to Investigate http://www.w3.org/tr/2014/wd-nfc-20140114/ nfc api and report back due march 5th 2014 -- due 2014-03-05 -- OPEN
<trackbot> https://www.w3.org/WAI/PF/Group/track/actions/1378
Gottfried: In general we did not find a problem. We did see a record could be transmitted. It would be good to pass a title attribute for alternative text. I am not sure that title is sufficient as alternative text
Gottfired: there were opportunities for accessibility. like GPII preference passing
s/Gottffired/Gottfried/
Janina: what is the status of replacing alt with title
Gottfried: Is the title describing the image or the function?
Cynthia: IE will use it.
Gottfried: this a collection of items and titles you could send to someone else.
Janina: I think this is worthy of greater investigation
... Thank you Gottfried
Gottfried: If we could get someone from the NFC authors to explain this to us that would be great.
Janina: do they have examples?
<ShaneM> note that the Web Mobile Interest Group has some skin in the NFC game as well
Janina: you can move the action to me
MichaelC: Action 1384 Carl Groves vibration API
<MichaelC> action-1384?
<trackbot> action-1384 -- Karl Groves to Draft note for vibration api about colliding with at-generated vibrations, and noting a11y-positive use cases http://www.w3.org/tr/2014/wd-vibration-20140211/ -- due 2014-02-19 -- OPEN

MichaelC: that is it for actions
... 4 new last calls

<jamesn> http://www.w3.org/TR/2014/WD-UISecurity-20140318/#accessibility

Cynthia: they have covered this in the past

Lisa: I will look at from a Cognitive perspective
<MichaelC> Clipboard API and events
MichaelC: 3 non-last calls to draw attention to. Clipboard and events
Rich: Does it define the content model that goes to the
clipboard?
... you just want to make sure they don’t drop accessibility information in
the content sent to the clipboard.
MichaelC: I think they are using the same functions as HTML5 drag and drop
<MichaelC> Annotation Use Cases
janina: we will watch drag and drop
... let’s track
<MichaelC> Requirements for Latin Text Layout and Pagination
Rich: we may have an ARIA 1.1 requirement from annotation work
MichaelC: we don’t know if this is print layout.
... This
should work its way into later specifications
lisa: I can put these specs. down in terms of annotations and cognitive.
