blaine: do you have a link to the discussion on the apps wg mailing list for Webfinger and SWD?
<jeff> agena?
I'd like to give it a shot
<jeff> http://www.w3.org/wiki/SocialWebHeadlightsTaskForce
this conference is SOC1
yay
<SteveH__> I have to drop at 10:45a ET
Point of this call is to find areas where W3C should focus on standardization in social networking
jeff says, is there space where we should be taking up more specialized work
we have 6 community groups working in the area
not a lot of normative standards work in the area
social networking is a big part of the web taken as a given
Details of work so far is available at http://www.w3.org/wiki/SocialWebHeadlightsTaskForce
Develop a block diagram to show technical components of social networking and how they relate to each other
If we know how this is mapped out, we can make decisions about what could be proprietary, what could be standardized at W3C, what is being well standardized at other organizations
headlights group to present at advisory committee meeting in 4 weeks
jeff, it is unlikely that we will have a converged recommendation by AC
<jeff> scribe: evan
evan: what is the next calendar date we could make recommendations?
what additional work do we have to do to get to a list of recommendations?
Work in July is have recommendations from headlights groups
Really important that we have recommendations by mid-July
jeff: it is not difficult to get recommendations; difficult to get consensus that we have the right recommendations
Also need the justification to do so
<Kelvin> So, I think we agreed on our last call that the diagram needs a script. Who was going to write that scrip?
<Kelvin> I also thought we agreed to reference the six CGs on the picture
Writing recommendations is easy; determining the correct ones is hard
<Kelvin> My point is we are leaping to the end without finishing the middle
SteveH__ says, IBM prefers to work off W3C facilities rather than github
<AnnBassetti> +1 will be better for me too
ACTION evan to move diagram from github to w3c wiki and use wiki versioning of the document
I hope that was right
Kelvin, asks that we highlight community groups around social
<Kelvin> Thanks Evan looks good
<Zakim> SteveH__, you wanted to ask question about objectives by June/July
SteveH__: we had discussed scheduling a workshop on social end of the summer 2012
OpenSocial is interested and would like to do a co-branded, co-sponsored event
IBM interested in sponsoring
Need lead time to plan a meeting
jeff: proposition for the AC meeting is to have a workshop
<SteveH__> @Jeff, sorry, you're right, it was not an action item for you
<scribe> ACTION: evan to arrange a call between Jeff & other parties at W3C AND OpenSocial [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2012/04/16-social-minutes.html#action01]
<SteveH__> @even, once again, thanks
SteveH__: no problem
... can you sit in on a call?
evan: should we talk to other organizations about the workshop?
jeff: might be too many people around the table
claudio: OMA may be interested in participating and/or sponsoring a workshop
if there are possibilities to have multiple meetings, could we have one on where the status of different organizations are on social
OMA has strong interest to have additional coordination
<scribe> ACTION: evan to move diagram from github to w3c wiki and use wiki versioning of the document [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2012/04/16-social-minutes.html#action02]
(sorry, I'm jst getting the handle on scribe terminology)
As we think about next steps, what are the right scope of social for W3C and with whom do we work
jeff willing to talk to multiple organizations
<scribe> ACTION: claudio to arrange a call on social efforts between Jeff and OMA [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2012/04/16-social-minutes.html#action03]
jeff: a lot of the work in Open Social has evolved to look at some of the really hard issues around enterprise environment
virginie: what parts of our diagram fall into OpenSocial space? What parts fall into OMA space?
jeff: OMA concentrates on mobile
AnnBassetti: has presented
boeing's analysis of community/social effort
... worked solo
... revised social diagram based on Boeing document
<Rich_> #q
AnnBassetti: started with original document
Identified some high-level organization
<Kelvin> I must confess I am getting a little lost as we seem to have more than one diagram now and I think we are stepping on each other
Kelvin: we've had a couple of contributions this week
AnnBassetti's and David Robinson's
Kelvin: I think there's an opportunity to merge and rationalize
<Kelvin> OK I probably mis understood that Ann's edits got edited after she submitted
<jeff> Ann: Maybe need a section for "groups"
When I get voice I'll suggest we take Ann's as canonical and merge David's into it
<jeff> +1 to evan
https://github.com/w3c-social-headlights/headlights-diagram/raw/16260e3fc76bedc1b5a2061cc2cd7c45b79ebd26/social-web.png <--- original version
<jeff> but also, we may need to rationalize parts of it: e.g. to add the group concept
AnnBassetti: added content structures
<SteveH__> I have to drop now. I'll stay in the IRC chatroom in the background
AnnBassetti: professional attributes (part of job, part of career) vs. personal attributes
Rich_: are David Robinson's efforts reflected in this document?
AnnBassetti: unable to get to most recent version
<AnnBassetti> Evan: <explains why github went bad; new version>
<AnnBassetti> (thanks, Evan .. no prob)
jeff: take a week and iterate
AnnBassetti: would like to incorporate feedback, hasn't had full version of feedback so far
<Kelvin> I am struggling to comment as we seem to have missing feedback and no single diagram to all work from
<scribe> ACTION: evan to get all versions of document onto W3C wiki today [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2012/04/16-social-minutes.html#action04]
<AnnBassetti> I have some time today and tomorrow .. .none on Wednesday
Original, David Robinson, and Ann Bassetti diagram
Ann's will be canonical, will incorporate David's changes
Rich_: tomorrow's Social Business group's feedback is David's version
evan: propose we suggest reviews against Ann's version
use-cases for social standards -- a narrative for diagram
was an assignment from 2 weeks ago that didn't come forward
<jeff> Evan: I'm not volunteering
<jeff> ... There is meta information in the diagram
<jeff> ... Could be valuable to pull out into narrative
<jeff> ... (e.g. Web ID, what do we mean by sharing, descriptive information)
<jeff> ... Would help someone looking at it for the first time
1- or 2-page document that describes where we're getting at
Not a 20-page document
Lloyd from social business group
Lloyd will pick up the pen and edit the headlights narrative document
<AnnBassetti> sounds like Ann and Kelvin are also willing to discuss with Lloyd how we might describe this diagram
AnnBassetti: that was my take-away
what is the meaning of the groupings, how do the parts relate to each other
<AnnBassetti> (I encourage others to let me know they would be willing to participate in this discussion! ... would be helpful to have your perspective)
Three volunteers will be working on it
<scribe> ACTION: Lloyd to lead editing a narrative document, Ann and Kelvin to help [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2012/04/16-social-minutes.html#action05]
AnnBassetti: people who don't understand the diagram are the best ones to comment
<AnnBassetti> goal: 1-2 pages overview description
<AnnBassetti> Lloyd ++
jeff: publish to the wiki so all can see it
<virginie> ok with both too
meet next week at 11AM EDT?
<AnnBassetti> Ann: OK
+1 here
